Twins owner Carl Pohlad passes away
The Associated Press is reporting that the Minnesota Twins owner Carl Pohlad has passed away. The billionaire banker who purchased the team from Calvin Griffith for $38 million in 1984 witnessed his team win two World Series Titles. When the team was purchased in 1984 Polhad was seen as the man who saved Minnesota Baseball. His image was tarnished in the last eight years when he threatened to sell, move or fold the team if he was unable to get a new stadium.
The Twins received the approval for a $522 million stadium that will be funded mainly by county tax. The team will start playing in their new stadium named Target Field in 2010.
Pohlad has been listed as one of the richest men in America with assets of 3.8 billion.
