This trade was a no-brainer for the Twins. Cabrera would have been WAY to expensive for their payroll. You have to take into account they are financially tied to Joe Nathan, Justin Morneau, Michael Cuddyer oh, and NIck Punto. Nick Punto? Anywho, they are going to have to spend some jing on a hitting third baseman and pony up anywhere from 16-20 million a year for Joe Mauer. I find it interesting that you dont hear anything about contract talks with Joe. That is because he has a wicked smart agent who is waiting for Joe to win the MVP. In the opinion of this 35 year Twins fan, 20 million will be worth every cent.
Getting back to the off season, dont get to attached to some of the players on last years Central Division winning team. I would be prepared to say sayonara to Glen Perkins, Brendan Harris, Alexi Casilla, Joe Crede, Anthony Swarzak and, if we are all lucky, Francisco Liriano. I think the only two I dont want to see go are Swarzak and Crede. If Crede could sign an incentive laiden contract he would be worth bringing back. Stay tuned because its going to be a hell of a ride until late February!
