Mulvey to D-Backs, Pino to Tribe

September 1, 2009

The Twins have parted ways with two of their pitching prospects – Kevin Mulvey and Yohan Pino.

Kevin Mulvey has been picked up off waivers by the Arizona Diamondbacks.  Mulvey had a decent run in Triple-A Rochester, with a 3.93 ERA over 24 starts with 113 strike outs.  Those numbers didn’t transfer over to the Major League level, though, as Mulvey recorded a 27.00 ERA in two appearances with the Twins.

Mulvey was picked up by the Twins in 2008 as part of the package that sent Johan Santana to the New York Mets.  The Twins received cash from the Diamondbacks, which is what the Twins gave Arizona for reliever John Rauch last week.

The Twins have also parted ways with Yohan Pino who was sent to the Cleveland Indians as the player to be named later for the Carl Pavano deal.  Pino pitched in both Double-A and Triple-A this year for a combined ERA of 3.03 and 116 strike outs.

Pino is said to have been one of four options Minnesota offered Cleveland in return for Pavano.
