Condrey placed on DL, Burnett called up

April 4, 2010

After a rough Spring Training, reliever Clay Condrey has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right elbow strain.  Condrey didn’t join the team in Minnesota for the Target Field preview and opted to pitch a minor league game in Florida.  After the game, Condrey stated that his arm was hurting and will head up to Minnesota to have it checked out.

With opening day right around the corner, the Twins opted to place Condrey on the DL and call up Alex Burnett from Triple-A.  Burnett was already on the 40-man roster and impressed the coaching staff during the spring.   Burnett held batters to a .077 average this spring but gave up three runs over four innings after issuing four walks and hitting a batter.

Ron Gardenhire had mentioned that Ron Mahay could have been a possibility but he wasn’t quite ready after getting a late start.  Two other prospects that were in Minnesota for the exhibition games, Anthony Slama and Kyle Waldrop, were not on the 40-man roster and would have had to make some moves to make those options possible.
